Artifacts are important because if a civilization had no form of writing, artifacts can give us some clues as to how they lived. For example, a bow shows that that civilization/person practiced archery for sport or for food, and if we know what time it came from, we can guess whether it was for fun or for hunting. A really ancient bow would probably be used for hunting, but nowadays, it's used for sport.

Artifacts are important to our knowledge about the past.For example I found a piece of a brick at our third grade excavation.That told that a one time the school was rebuilt.

Artifacts are important because without them we would not know of many things that happened in the past. My favorite example of this is how historians know how a animal died by finding spearheads and and other weapons in or near the bones.
